TRAIN YOURSELF TO BE GODLY
“Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
As we conclude the “Building Up the Kingdom” series, our final topic will hopefully tie everything together in a practical way… “TRAIN YOUR SELF TO BE GODLY” Today, let’s look at a simple plan to TRAIN ourselves with the goal of growing individually and as a congregation.
Paul & Timothy were close friends for around twenty years. Paul took Timothy under his wing in Lystra around 49 A.D. and was very close to him up to Paul’s execution in Rome… c. 67 A.D.
The book of I Timothy is centered around the church in Ephesus and was written around 57 A.D. Incidentally, Felipe Bascones, our Campus and Teen Minister, is returning from Ephesus this week! He attended the International Teacher’s Conference last week, which was held in Ephesus, now in Turkey. What a blessing for us to have Felipe return and share about this life changing time- in the near future! It will help us appreciate God’s word and the treasures it holds!
Today’s points will be simple and my prayer is that each of us can better grasp God’s word and put it into practice in our lives consistently. Not only are we 100% responsible to train ourselves to be godly, we also have the blessing of God’s plan to get others involved in our lives to help us all do our best to glorify God!
God sends Jesus to the world today through us Christians. What a privilege, honor and serious responsibility! As Paul said “Who is equal to such a task?” (II Corinthians 2:16 )
Here are the points below for today’s lesson as we learn better to “TRAIN OURESELVES TO BE GODLY.”
I) Tell Junk Food “No!”
II) Realize that You are your biggest responsibility
III) Ask a Godly Friend To Help you
IV) Insist on God’s Trustworthy Word
V) Never Forget God’s Glory and Goodness
One of the most inspiring points for me as I prepared this was the following thought…
God never says in the Bible, “Don’t Call Me, I’ll Call You.” He does constantly call us, and expects that we will call to him for the grace we so deeply need. Jerry Maday
Food Drive: We are doing a food drive to benefit the Pernet Family Health food pantry’s Thanksgiving basket program. We are collecting the food today. Let’s make every effort to help this organization to serve the poor in Worcester.
HOPE for Children currently has children from China and India that are in need of adoptive families. These children do have some specials needs. Originally we had 10 children from China and through your help 6 of them now have families! Our India program was given 12 children to place and now 6 of them now have families! Praise God for moving in the hearts of the families that have come forward to adopt these children. Since these children have been assigned to HFC, once a home study and document preparation is completed, the wait time should be less than 6 months. Thank you, The Hope for Children Staff
