Weekly Announcements & Prayer Requests – February 21, 2010

Dynamic Marriage: The first session of the Dynamic Marriage Class begins this week.  Three more spots are still available. The cost of the class is $150 and will include all the materials.  Please see Oscar Goss to sign up.      

Women’s Day Planning: Women’s Day in May is swiftly approaching. If you would like to be involved in the planning we will be having our first meeting after church next Sunday, 2/28.  Bring a lunch and your ideas! All help big or small is appreciated!! 

First Principles:  There will be a First Principles class taught on Wednesday nights in March and April.  This class, which will meet every week for eight weeks, is for those who have not taken it before as well as for disciples who would like to review the studies and improve their ability to study the Bible.  Please sign up with Tom Caswell.  

Second Principles:  There will be a Second Principles class for all members not taking First Principles in March and April.  This class will follow the regular Midweek Schedule.  

Disciples Today:  All resources and articles on DT are now open to all with NO NEED FOR A SUBSCRIPTION!  www.disciplestoday.org.  

Haiti Update: HOPE worldwide has received 50 tents from its Rotarian partner, ShelterBox. Each ShelterBox tent is accompanied by a survival kit containing supplies and cooking utensils. A celebration was held on the church grounds of the collapsed Port-au-Prince Church building upon the erection of the first tent. 

Our relief efforts are now focused on three sites: Canapes Vert, Carrefour, and the Port-au-Prince airport. Food supplies and fresh water are now being delivered daily. 

HOPE worldwide is reaching out through relatives of Stanley Dumorney who are connected to Port-au-Prince’s city government to officially recognize our relief activities on the Canapes Vert site. 

Sandy Swaby, a physician from the Kingston, Jamaica Church has volunteered in Port-au-Prince through the Jamaica Ministry of Health. Dave Roderick, an EMT from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Church, is volunteering as Assistant Hospital Director at the Community Hospital of Haiti. Tim Huffman of the Houston, Texas Church is volunteering to help Haitian orphans through Project Kid. 

The Next Steps:  Our disaster relief team in Port-au-Prince has begun planning for the recovery phase of our efforts, including providing psycho-social

2010 HOPE Youth Corp is now accepting applications! HOPE Youth Corps is a faith-based summer volunteer program for high school and university students focusing on leadership training and community service throughout the world. It brings students from all different backgrounds together to work with HOPE worldwide programs across the globe, serving the world’s poor.  

There are both domestic and international sites available.

New England Singles Retreat – March 18-21, 2010, Mt Snow Resort – West Dover, VT.  Costs begin at $100.  See Matt Butts to register and pay. 


Prayer Requests:

Patryce Hudspeth:  Patryce is now at The Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rochdale.  She appreciates visits and telephone calls. 

Norma Robbins:  is having health issues.  She is currently in a nursing home in Connecticut. 

Willie Moore: Diane Contois’ father had cancer surgery last week.
