What Is RSS?
For those of you wondering what RSS is and how you can subscribe to our Church News Feed, here’s some info for you:
RSS is a simple XML-based system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, a webmaster can put their content into a standardised format, which can be viewed and organised through a RSS-aware software.
A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it finds.
RSS-aware programs are available for various operating systems. Client-side readers and aggregators are typically constructed as standalone programs or extensions to existing programs such as web browsers. Many browsers have integrated support for RSS feeds.
Web-based feed readers and news aggregators such as YourLiveWire require no software installation and make the user’s "feeds" available on any computer with Web access.
On Web pages, web feeds (RSS) are typically linked with the word "Subscribe" or like the Worcester Church website "
Subscribe to this category".
Many news aggregators such as Feedburner publish subscription buttons like
for use on Web pages to simplify the process of adding news feeds.
RSS is also beginning to be used as the delivery system of choice for sending desktop alerts.
Here’s what the RSS Church News Feed will sort of look like on your "My Yahoo" home page for example after your subscribe to it using the RSS button from this link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/WorcesterChurchNews. As you can see these are the lastest postings to the Worcester Church website. This content will update automatically after every new posting.
Pretty cool huh? Its just another way to keep up-to-date with the lastest Worcester church announcements, sermons, events, etc.
